What is the culture of caring for employees?

Taking care of the needs of employees has become number 1 on the list of priorities of organizations aimed at matching the organizational culture to the post-covid reality, which has already become an inseparable element of those times. It takes a moment to find oneself in the new normal, in which the pandemic has set and continues to set new definitions of employee needs caused by the changes taking place. The „toplist” of benefits that allow to respond to the most important expectations of employees has evolved. Organizations today largely focus on the well-being of employees who need support in almost every area of life.

Does a modern company reject proven, but used for years, solutions in favor of innovative ideas? When talking about modern organizational culture, it is necessary to look at the topic broadly, carefully analyzing the needs and available tools. The constant variability faced by HR professionals forces them to be able to make the right judgment and listen to the needs of the employee. To properly approach building a valuable company culture, HR should create a hybrid program that combines proven solutions with a modern cafeteria. That is why it is worth getting to know the pillars that are the basis for the functioning of a properly understood modern organization.

Disinformation is the biggest scourge of recent times. With the advent of COVID-19, the lack of verified and correctly communicated information has contributed to the deterioration of employee moods and deepening the sense of danger. Well-conducted communication has become the basis of the company’s organizational culture. Although many leaders believe that they are properly conveying the most important information to the team, it is worth considering whether it is understandable and consolidated? Effective communication forces the content to be matched to the form of the message. A verbal message can be fleeting, and an email message can be overlooked or lost. The golden mean may be an easy-to-use platform that allows you to exchange content and announcements on an ongoing basis and ask questions, while archiving correspondence and allowing – if necessary – free return to the message. Good communication is a must have for a modern organization. In the era of instant messaging, the speed and availability of content have become the basis for the desired form of dialogue.

Many companies operate in a culture of directness close to the Anglo-Saxon countries, addressing each other by name. It is worth asking whether talking to yourself as „You” is not an artificial creation of a community and whether it really translates into building relationships? Accidental greeting of the CEO on the way to lunch, without the possibility of conversation, creates the illusion of a non-existent relationship.

Building a real community – open and direct – is another pillar of the company’s modern organizational culture. Free access to management and the desire to get to know employees is a reliable way to create a comfortable workplace (56% of employees consider the employer to be the best source of information). The sense of belonging to the company community improves the employee’s well-being, strengthens engagement, strengthens ties and has a positive effect on the company’s image. Also in this case, a helpful tool is the Worksmile platform, combining the function of the aforementioned communicator. The virtual environment enables the exchange of experiences and passions and allows you to get to know your colleagues better. An innovative tool combined with a traditional form of contact is a popular solution. The application also allows you to incorporate elements of gamification into the life of the company, through the publication of challenges and integration on the way to the best results. The platform also has an appreciation function, thanks to which you can give employees a well-deserved kudos on the forum of the entire company at any time.

No longer a sports card is the most popular and most popular non-wage benefit. The pandemic has brutally discovered the need to take care of the team also from the psychological side. In the era of isolation, more and more people struggled with mental problems and sought specialist help. According to the ZUS report „Sickness absenteeism in 2020”, last year 1.5 million medical certificates were issued for a total of 27.7 million days for mental disorders and behavioral disorders. Compared to 2019 – an increase of over 25% of redundancies was recorded. There is no doubt that employees more and more often could not cope with the new reality, and the only form of help known to them was traditional L4. Fortunately, many of them have tried to find a solution that will enable them to better cope with stress. Looking at the increase in the number of meditation practitioners, it is mental training that has become an accessible tension reducer. The organizational culture of the company should pay special attention to comprehensive protection of employees’ health, as over 80% of employees believe that the employer should take care of their mental health

Nothing is more demotivating than the lack of free choice. Especially when it comes to rewards for hard work. When building an organizational culture, it should be remembered that the benefits offered are properly selected to the needs. How do you reward employees so that they actually feel appreciated? Contrary to appearances, an additional injection of cash does not always meet the assumed expectations. Benefit is an added value aimed at appreciating the employee. Extra cash is often lost in the midst of everyday expenses, which makes it lose its intended character. Therefore, the best solution in this case will be to put into use the employees of a benefit cafeteria with a diverse offer that can be adapted to the individual needs of employees. A properly built cafeteria should combine offers on many aspects of life. It is important to give employees a product that will meet their needs and become a pleasant addition to the salary.

Building a company’s organizational culture is a long and demanding process, at the center of which the employee and his needs should be at the center. Therefore, I encourage you to open up to dialogue about current trends and expectations. Combining proven solutions with attractive technology is the best way to build a hybrid and modern organizational culture of the company.
