What are dad’s parenting rights?

Newly baked dad has the right to m. 2 weeks of paternity leave, which he is entitled to only.

In order to take care of a child, an employee-father has the right to paternity leave of up to 2 weeks, but not longer than:

  • the child is 12 months of age or
  • 12 months have elapsed from the date on which the decision adjudicating the adoption of the child becomes final and no longer than until the child turns 14.

Paternity leave and maternity allowance for the period of this leave may be used once or in no more than 2 parts, the next of which does not have to fall immediately after the previous part of the paternity leave. No part of paternity leave may be shorter than a week.

These rules also apply to non-employee insured persons.

Maternity allowance is not payable:

  • for periods in which the insured retains the right to remuneration under special provisions,
  • during the period of unpaid leave,
  • during the period of temporary arrest or imprisonment, except for cases where the right to the benefit results from the sickness insurance of persons performing paid work on the basis of a referral to work during imprisonment or temporary arrest.
