What are the principles of effective communication?

Proper communication is an essential element of interpersonal relationships, both in the private and professional fields. To communicate clearly and effectively, remember to follow a few simple rules.

5 elements of effective communication:

  • Active listening.

Focus on the interlocutor, maintain eye contact. Pay attention to his gestures, posture and tone of voice. So don’t let your phone or computer distract you.

  • Consistency and transparency

Speak in a language understandable to the recipient. Communicate information clearly and concisely. Make sure you’ve been understood. Repeat if necessary.

  • Asking questions

Show your interest in the topic of conversation. Use open-ended, clarifying questions. This will allow the interlocutor to express his opinion more fully.

  • Kindness and empathy

Your smile and friendly tone will encourage your interlocutor to communicate openly. It’s important to be authentic about it. Avoid giving opinions and judgments that add nothing to the message.

  • Emotional intelligence

Adapt the vocabulary and pace of speech to the topic of conversation and the situation. Avoid interrupting the caller. Don’t let emotions take over you. Concentrate on the message.
