What are the most common workplace accidents?

In various industries, there are tens of thousands of work-related accidents every year. Some of them result in permanent disability of employees and even loss of life. Professional OHS service for companies helps to significantly reduce the risk of emergence of dangers, although, as the list below will show, we are not able to avoid all situations. In no particular order, we present seven of the most common workplace accidents.

  • FIGHTS AT WORK

Even the best health and safety courses are sometimes unable to stop the temperament of our employees. Workplace tensions culminate in a physical confrontation. In order to avoid such situations, attention should be paid to complaints and comments made by personnel managers.

  • SLIPS, TRIPS AND FALLS

They are everywhere – in offices, shops, factories. It usually ends in bruises, in worse cases in fractures. They are especially dangerous when working at heights. If you have employees who are exposed to such a risk, you should additionally train them in first aid.

  • NOISE EXPOSURE

Industrial deafness does not occur on such a scale as it did several years ago, but it is better to nip this particular problem in the bud. The only rational solution to avoid it is to use protective earmuffs.

  • IMPACTS BY FALLING OBJECTS

Found in warehouses and shops, but workers in the construction industry are most often exposed to them. The company’s OHS service should control the condition of stored items, and equipping subordinates with helmets will reduce the risk of serious injuries.

  • RSI

Injuries due to chronic overuse of muscles and tendons. They occur when we perform one activity for a long time, such as typing on the keyboard. You can reduce its formation by using the right to five-minute breaks after each hour of work on the computer.

  • CUTS AND RAISED WOUNDS

Electric saws, scissors, and even office guillotines – they can all do harm. The most common causes of these injuries are poor training, inadequate safety procedures, and lack of a proper uniform.

  • TOXIC FUMES

Inhalation of hazardous compounds can lead to permanent damage to health. Special protective equipment such as goggles, mask and overalls are essential in these situations. The health and safety and first aid course for employees should also be expanded to include issues related to toxic chemicals.
