What is the „Sectoral Agreement for the Development of Offshore Wind Energy in Poland”?
On September 15, 2021, representatives of the government administration and key representatives of the offshore wind energy sector signed the „Sectoral Agreement for the Development of Offshore Wind Energy in Poland” („Polish Offshore Wind Sector Deal”). Its aim is to support the development of the sector in Poland and to maximize „local content”.
The agreement was signed by a total of over 200 entities representing the government administration, local government, industry organizations and investors. The Minister of Climate and Environment, Michał Kurtyka, pointed out that the signing of the agreement was a historic event. „This is another important step in the development of this green sector, which will help rebuild the economy affected by the coronavirus pandemic and take advantage of the opportunity offered by the installation of 11 GW of capacity by 2040.”
The purpose of the agreement is simple – it is to constitute a permanent platform for cooperation between government administration and local government bodies, current and future investors and operators of offshore wind farms in Poland, as well as representatives of the supply and service chain, scientific and research units and financial and insurance institutions.
The overriding goal of this initiative, as pointed out by the head of the ministry, is the participation of Polish entrepreneurs in the supply chain for offshore wind farms being built in the Polish exclusive economic zone.
– Offshore wind energy is not only strengthening Poland’s energy security and a pillar of energy transformation. It is a civilization opportunity for the development and building a competitive advantage of Polish entrepreneurs based on modern zero-emission technologies. Thanks to the launch of investments worth around PLN 130 billion, new, well-paid jobs will be created – added Minister Kurtyka.
Any entity that represents one of the groups of stakeholders listed in the Agreement and submits a written declaration of willingness to comply with the provisions of the Agreement to the Minister of Climate and Environment may become a party to the Sectoral Agreement.
