How do employers see the issue of work-life balance for employees?

Work-Life Balance (WLB) is a key aspect for employees, and employers are increasingly realizing this. This balance relates to time, commitment and satisfaction both at work and in life outside of it. Reconciliation of work and life has many benefits, such as increasing the participation of women and men in the labor market, faster return to work after a break and improving the efficiency of employees and the company.

Research shows that the majority of employers believe that their employees have no problems maintaining a work-life balance. However, there are differences in the perception of this issue between different sectors and industries. Employers from the „healthcare and social assistance” and „construction” sections most often notice the problem of harmonious reconciliation of duties at work and outside of work. By contrast, the „trade” sector is less likely to indicate this problem.

Employers are also aware that professional work has a large or very large impact on the private life of employees. This applies to both the private and public sectors. This impact is particularly evident in the 'administration and support activities’ and 'construction’ sections.

An imbalance between work and life can lead to many negative consequences. Employers point to stress, health problems, job dissatisfaction, family problems and lack of motivation as the main effects of this imbalance. There is also a link between the responsibilities of private life and the impact on work, especially in the public sector and in large enterprises.

In order to meet the needs of employees, more and more employers are introducing measures aimed at reconciling work and life. Flexible working arrangements, flexible working hours, teleworking, job sharing, as well as financial support and childcare in the workplace are examples of such activities. The organization of working time is the most frequently used instrument.

In conclusion, work-life balance is an important issue for employers. Employers recognize the impact of work on employees’ private lives and the consequences of imbalance. They introduce various activities to support.
