At what height should the fire extinguisher be suspended?

The regulations do not specify the height should be placed fire extinguisher. From a practical point of view, a height of approx. 140 cm is recommended for the upper part of the fire extinguisher. When removing the fire extinguisher from the hanger, the user should freely grasp the lever with his right or left hand, and the other hand behind the bottom of the fire extinguisher in order to raise it to a height of approx. 3-5 cm when removing it from the hanger. It is also possible to put a fire extinguisher on the floor.

Fire regulations only specify issues related to the equipment of the facility with fire extinguishers and their placement. Pursuant to § 33 of the Regulation of the Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration of 7 June 2010 on fire protection of buildings, other buildings and areas (Journal of Laws No. 109, item 719), fire extinguishers in facilities must be located:

1. in easily accessible and visible places, in particular:

a) at the entrances to buildings,

b) on staircases,

c) in corridors,

(d) at exits from outdoor spaces;

2) in places not exposed to mechanical damage and heat sources (furnaces, heaters);

3) in multi-storey buildings – in the same places on each floor, if the existing conditions allow it.

When deploying fire extinguishers, the following conditions must be met:

  • the distance from any place in the facility where a person can stay to the nearest fire extinguisher should not be more than 30 m;
  • access to fire extinguishers shall be at least 1 m wide.
