What is the new trend on the labor market „Lazy girl job”?

„Lazy girl job” is a trend from TikTok that is becoming more and more popular among young employees, especially those from Generation Z. The priority here is not earnings, but work-life balance, having a nice boss and finishing work promptly at five o’clock. south – writes „The Wall Street Journal”.

For today’s 20- and 30-year-olds, who grew up watching their parents and older colleagues devote themselves entirely to work, maintaining a work-life balance is one of the most important issues. New trends promoted by Generation Z on social media appear like mushrooms after the rain. After „quiet quitting” or „bare minimum Monday”, it’s time for the „lazy girl job”. This can be understood in two ways: a „lazy”/”easy” job for a girl or a job for a „lazy” girl.

Under the hashtag #lazygirljob on TikTok, we mostly find short video content created by young women who brag about their work from behind their desks. These are – as the authors of the recordings claim – completely stress-free activities, often performed remotely.

TikTok creators openly admit that they allow themselves several breaks while working, and the tasks they perform require virtually no effort. All this is paid decently – they earn between PLN 60,000 and PLN 80,000. hole. annually. Examples of professions for „lazy” girls are related to digital marketing, customer service or office administration.

„WSJ” introduces the concept of „lazy girl job” using the example of 23-year-old Victoria Bilodeau. Until recently, she worked 10 hours a day as an environmental protection technician, earning $26. for an hour. Now a freelance digital marketer, she spends about three hours each day promoting makeup and skincare products online. He earns less than before, but in his free time he exercises, meditates and plays with his cats. She calls her job „lazy girl job”, while saying that „she has a really nice life now compared to what it was.”

As Money.pl journalist Krystian Rosiński wrote earlier, job satisfaction among representatives of Generation Z is the lowest of all generations present on the labor market. This is shown by both global and Polish research. Young people feel that if there is something wrong with the labor market and it makes people unhappy, it needs to be fixed. „Silent resignation” and „Monday’s absolute minimum” are therefore their response to the ubiquitous cult of work and the erroneous belief that a person’s value is determined by his profession and the quality of the work he performs.

As we read on the „WSJ” website, this year’s „State of the Global Workplace” report by the Gallup Institute shows that six out of ten employees claim that they do not put maximum effort into their work. In a Gallup poll conducted among over 120,000 adult employees’ main complaint about their workplaces was their work culture.

Gabrielle Judge, a 26-year-old influencer who talks on her accounts on TikTok, Instagram and LinkedIn, among others: about the need to maintain work-life balance, she claims to have coined the term „lazy girl job” in May this year. Until recently, she worked as a „lazy girl” – she was a customer advisor in a technology company.

As we read, the influencer was aware that the adjective „lazy” (Polish: lazy) may have negative connotations, but she wanted her term to go out into the world and gain popularity. As she explains, choosing a „lazy girl job” does not mean that someone is lazy. According to Judge, it’s work-life balance that can make you feel like you’re working less than people in other jobs.

These are career paths where the work-life balance is so incredible that you may feel like you are lazy, explains the influencer.
