What topics were raised at the conference „The Future of Collective Bargaining”?

Katarzyna Łażewska-Hrycko Chief Inspector in the double role of guest and host participated in the conference „The future of collective labor agreements”. The organizer was the District Labor Inspectorate in Katowice.

In the first part of the meeting, which took place on November 25, 2021, the speakers gave lectures focused on issues related to collective agreements. Piotr Kalbron, acting District Labour Inspector in Katowice, gave a presentation entitled „Collective agreements and the experiences of the District Labour Inspectorate in Katowice”. The Head of the Inspectorate Katarzyna Łażewska-Hrycko presented the paper „Collective agreements and the experience of the National Labour Inspectorate”.

Prof. Marcin Zieleniecki from the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Gdańsk also shared his observations in the speech „Proposals for changes in the legal regulation of concluding collective labour agreements in the draft code of collective labour law in 2018”. In turn, Prof. Jan Wojtyła – Senior Rector of the University of Economics in Katowice presented the paper „Dilemmas of systemic shaping of social order in labor relations”.

In the second part of the conference, a discussion panel was held with the participation of speakers and invited guests, including Katarzyna Łażewska-Hrycko, Chief Labour Inspector, Piotr Duda, Chairman of the National Commission of NSZZ „Solidarność”, Dr. Janusz Michałek, President of the Katowice Special Economic Zone in Katowice, Prof. Marcin Zieleniecki from the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Gdańsk, Prof. Jan Wojtyła, Senior Rector of the University of Economics in Katowice. The panel was also attended by representatives of trade union organizations, employers’ organizations from the Silesian Voivodeship. The moderator was Małgorzata Szczęsny from the Department of Law and Insurance at the University of Economics in Katowice.

The participants of the panel discussed topics related to the functioning of collective labour agreements. They drew attention to the prospects that collective agreements open up for employees and employers, also in the context of the changing labor market in Poland.

The aim of the conference was to exchange experiences on the role that collective bargaining agreements currently play in shaping employment conditions and which they will play in the future. The assessment showed the importance of company collective agreements.

The honorary patronage over the conference was held by: Stanisław Szwed, Deputy Minister of Family and Social Policy, Piotr Duda, Chairman of the National Commission of NSZZ „Solidarność” and Prof. Celina Olszak, Rector of the University of Economics in Katowice.

The media patronage of the event was taken by: Tygodnik Solidarność, Tysol.pl, TVP3 Katowice, Dziennik Zachodni and Nasz Miasto.

The conference was organized in a hybrid way, both at the headquarters of the District Labor Inspectorate in Katowice, as well as via YouTube.
