What is the role of the psyche in achieving business success?

Entrepreneurship tempts Poles – as many as 20% of them want to run their business, and 40% positively assess the conditions for doing business in their country. The fight is high, because a prosperous company gives financial freedom without a ceiling of earnings or geographical freedom – you can run a business remotely from every corner of the earth. However, not everyone will succeed, and among the many reasons – such as economic, political, legal or economic conditions – psychological aspects should also be mentioned. The role of the psyche in achieving business success is huge.

The catalog of characteristics of people entering the business and achieving success in it is open, but there are universal features showing the necessary predispositions. These include an ambition to achieve more and a willingness to take risks that tolerates anxiety associated with potentially negative consequences. A person with a low risk tolerance will be better suited as a regular employee. It is important in business to be able to learn from mistakes, because most moves – especially at the beginning – will not bring the desired results. The basis is trust and respect for the team, so those who trust only themselves and do not want to delegate should become freelancers, because there they will not have to build and manage the team.

Business also requires result orientation and measuring each set goal, so someone who prefers the process and is reluctant to judge himself by the effects will not be suitable for this profession. It is also suggested to be responsible for oneself and others and to be ready to take responsibility for the course of events. So those who tend to look for responsibility outside of themselves and are outside the control room will not find themselves well in a world where you often have to be a rudder, a sailor and a ship in one, not to mention leading the whole team. Developing is also a feature of the best entrepreneurs, because this multidimensional profession, in which you have to master many skills, requires long-term actions and continuous learning. Soft skills, i.e. competences to manage thoughts, emotions and behaviors that help achieve personal and professional goals, are particularly important. Deloitte Acces Economics indicates that soft skills will be necessary in as many as 66% of jobs by 2030.

Consistency favors entrepreneurs, so if someone is looking for results right away, he will not find himself well in a business that requires patience. You also need to be able to accept criticism well, which the boss – as a person who has been on the candlestick more than once – will have to deal with much more often than a regular employee. The feature of good leaders also includes a system view that allows you to observe many areas that need to be addressed – different departments in the organization, different customer segments, different employee profiles. Discipline is the basis, because it allows you to persevere in difficult moments. Empathy, defined as both a trait and the ability to recognize emotions in others, separate them from each other and respond adequately to them, will also be included in the catalog of necessary predispositions.

Focus on sales, developed communication skills, commitment and passion should also be added. An effective leader will also be creative, adapt to the situation, are driven by vision, do not mind healthy competition with others and know how to ask for help. It combines specific personality traits with specific scientific leadership models. Combining empathy, relationality with precise communication and charisma, adding behavioral and cognitive flexibility and courage, maintaining a balance between focusing on a person and a task, combining universally masculine and feminine traits, as well as resistance to stress and a focus on development are the pillars of effective leadership. Such leadership, in which personality traits and competences related to various disciplines intertwine: management, marketing, economics and psychology, is a set of specific tactics of conduct. Each of us, based on our characteristics and needs, can choose the right leadership model and learn it, thus becoming a better leader.

Leadership and entrepreneurship can be learned and every businessman should be educated formally or informally in the field of: management, marketing, accounting, psychology, communication.
