What are the findings of the „CSR Managers” study?

The results of the „CSR Managers” survey show the increasing integration of CSR values into the company’s business activities – a phenomenon that almost 80% of respondents saw in their companies. The Responsible Business Forum has published the latest edition of the survey, conducted among people responsible in companies in Poland for CSR and sustainability.

„CSR Managers” is a study of the Responsible Business Forum, examining changes in the approach and ways of implementing the concept of corporate social responsibility and sustainable development in Poland. The latest edition was published on the 20th anniversary of the organization and related celebrations of the „20 years of partnership for sustainable development in Poland”, of which LPP is a partner.

The results of the survey show that business has contributed to solving social problems in recent years (70%) and that CSR has influenced the way businesses operate (87%). Compared to the 2015 survey, there was an increase in positive responses by 5 and 6 percentage points respectively. According to respondents, the most important social issues supported by business are digital exclusion (53%).

This edition also highlights environmental issues that business contributes to. According to respondents, these are over-production of plastic (63%) and excessive water consumption (56%) and greenhouse gas emissions (56%).

The importance of environmental challenges is also underlined by the high compatibility of CSR managers in terms of climate problems. 90% of respondents agree that business has an important role to play in adapting our country to the effects of climate change, while almost as many people agree that this is the role that business will play in combating climate change.

The „CSR Managers” survey of the Relevant Business Forum also shows the most important barriers to the development of the concept of responsible business in Poland.

In the opinion of more than 50% of CSR managers, the main obstacles to the implementation of CSR are: the understanding of CSR as sponsorship activities and the lack of understanding of ideas by company executives, and the lack of education of staff, is the third most frequently indicated barrier (44%). We live in a time when the issue of leadership is one of the most important, so the key question is whether it is more concerns or real obstacles – writes Marzena Strzelczak in the introduction to the research report , President, Ceo of the Responsible Business Forum.

The study was also complemented by questions on issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Among respondents asked how the current situation had affected the position of corporate social responsibility, almost half (48%) said that the role of CSR and sustainability in the company had increased as a result of this situation, of which 17% felt that it had increased significantly.
