What are the conclusions of the Eurobarometer 517. The future of Europe”?

91% of 15-24 year olds believe that combating climate change can help improve their own health and well-being. 84% of people aged 55 and over also agree with this thesis. Almost one in two Europeans (49%) see climate change as the biggest challenge for Europe’s future and shows strong support for the environmental objectives of the European Green Deal. 88 percent. europeans believe that increasing the share of renewable energy in our economy and higher energy efficiency are important. 80% agree on the importance of making Europe the first climate-neutral continent by 2050 and promoting the development of a market for zero- and low-emission vehicles.

As other future global challenges, respondents to the survey „Eurobarometer 517. The future of Europe” pointed to health issues (34%) and forced migration and resettlement (almost 30%).

Comparable living standards (31%) and the Common Health Policy (22%) are two of the most important aspects for Europe’s future. Europeans also consider greater solidarity between Member States (21%) and energy independence (20%) to be priorities.

Among the four most frequently cited challenges for the EU were social inequality (36%), unemployment (32%) and migration-related issues (31%). As with global challenges, environmental issues and climate change were also in high position for the challenges facing the EU (32%).

Europeans consider respect for democracy, human rights and the rule of law (27%) to be the EU’s most important assets. It was followed by its economic, industrial and commercial advantage (25 per cent).

Peace (49%), freedom of opinion (47%), social equality and solidarity (45%) and tolerance and openness to others (44%) are among the values that respondents believe the EU best embodies – compared to other countries.

The vast majority of Europeans admit that they are satisfied with life in the EU (81%) and in their own country (89%) and that they are satisfied with family life (89%).
