An employee who has an accident at work or has an occupational disease is entitled to certain benefits in accordance with the Act of 30 October 2002 on social insurance for accidents at work and occupational diseases (Journal of Laws of 2019, item 1205) . One of them is one-off compensation for permanent or long-term damage to health caused by an accident at work or an occupational disease.

The amount of one-off damages is announced by the minister competent for social security. The amount due for one percent damage to health changes once a year and the new rates apply from April 1 of a given year to March 31 of the following year. The new amounts of one-off compensation for an accident at work or occupational disease, referred to in the Act of October 30, 2002, effective from April 1, 2020 to March 31, 2021, are:

• PLN 984 for each percent of permanent or long-term damage to health,
• PLN 984 for each percentage of permanent or long-term damage to health due to an increase in this damage by at least 10 percentage points, if the deterioration of health was a consequence of an accident at work or an occupational disease,
• PLN 17,214 for the decision of total incapacity for work and the inability to live independently of the insured,
• PLN 17,214 for the certificate of total incapacity for work and the inability to live independently due to the deterioration of the health status of the pensioner,
• PLN 88,527, if only one family member, spouse or child of the deceased insured or pensioner is entitled to one-off compensation,
• PLN 44,264 if one member of the family of the deceased insured or pensioner other than a spouse or child is entitled to one-off compensation,
• PLN 88,527 if both the spouse and one or more children of the deceased insured or pensioner are entitled to one-off compensation, and PLN 17,214 for increasing this compensation for each of these children,
• PLN 88,527 if two or more children of the deceased insured or pensioner are entitled to one-off compensation, and PLN 17,214 for increasing the compensation for the second and each subsequent child,
• PLN 17,214 if, next to the spouse or children, other family members are entitled to one-off compensation, each of them regardless of the compensation due to the spouse or children,
• PLN 44,264, if only family members other than the deceased’s spouse or children are entitled to one-off compensation, and PLN 17,214 for increasing this compensation for the second and each subsequent entitled.
