Who is a health and safety expert?

A health and safety expert is someone who reviews projects that are being built or rebuilt, or parts thereof, if work facilities are foreseen. The appraiser carefully inspects the building and determines whether it meets all the standards indicated in the health and safety regulations, as well as the applicable ergonomics rules.

The powers of health and safety experts shall be granted by the Chief Labour Inspector on a proposal from the Selection Board for the Evaluation of Candidates for Surveyors. This profession may be practised by a person who has completed a technical university degree, has completed at least 5 years of professional experience in the field of completed studies, has completed a course preparing for the opinion of projects in the field of health and safety at work and ergonomics, conducted by an entity authorized by the Chief Inspector of Labour, according to a program approved by the Chief Inspector of Labour, and has successfully submitted an examination to the Commission.

Health and safety experts may have a variety of powers in specific types of construction and project groups. For example, an occupational health and safety expert’s entitlement to general construction is marked with the symbol „1.0” and allows the administrative facilities to be checked, Social, cultural and arts, science, education, education, sports and leisure, kindergartens, orphanages, hotels, wholesale and retail facilities, small production and service facilities and crafts, with an expected employment of up to 20 people, sewage treatment plants, pumping stations, as well as water treatment plants. However, completely different powers are required in other sectors, such as industrial construction or specialist construction.
