What should be the temperature in the work rooms?

In the work rooms, a temperature appropriate to the type of work performed must be provided at a temperature of not less than 14 °C, unless technological reasons do not allow it. This results from § 30 of the Regulation of the Minister of Labour and Social Policy on general occupational health and safety regulations.

In office rooms and in those where light physical work is performed, the temperature may not be lower than 18 ° C. However, in accordance with § 45 point 4 of this Regulation, workstations located outside the premises should be located and organized in such a way that employees are protected from hazards related in particular to weather conditions, including precipitation,  low or high temperature or strong wind.

If employees perform their work in open space or in unheated rooms, the employer is obliged to provide them with rooms with a temperature not lower than 16 ° C, which will allow shelter from precipitation, warming up and changing clothes.

Failure to ensure the right temperature in the work rooms may be associated with the inspection of the National Labor Inspectorate, during which the Inspector may issue an order to suspend work on positions located in places where the temperature is too low. In addition, the Inspector has the right to impose a fine in the amount of PLN 1,000 to 30,000.

If work is suspended due to improper temperature, employees retain the right to remuneration because they remain ready to work.
