What is wellbeing in the company?

There is no single definition of wellbeing, because wellbeing is a very individual matter. However, we can see that wellbeing affects several areas of human life. According to the Wellbeing Index developed by the Gallup Institute and Healthways, we can include:

  • sense of meaning – that is, understanding and liking what is done,
  • relations with the environment – that is, an atmosphere between people, in which values such as sincerity, openness, trust and mutual kindness count,
  • finance – i.e. financial security and the feeling that remuneration is adequate to the competences and responsibilities entrusted to it,
  • community – that is, the feeling that you are part of an organisation and that it has a meaning, a sense of belonging to a group,
  • psychophysical well-being – i.e. health, motor activity, healthy eating and general well-being.

These elements provide satisfaction, opportunity for development and fulfillment in both personal and professional life. The creation of such conditions brings positive results over time. A man who feels good about himself is also more attentive to the needs of others. Real feedback from the surroundings makes the employee consider himself a competent person who knows his value and can also appreciate others. This builds supportive relationships and develops in those areas where he feels he should. It builds mental resilience, copes better with stress and takes care of your health and inner balance.

Effects of the company’s wellbeing strategy:

  • positive atmosphere at work
  • good company image
  • better health and well-being of employees
  • fewer sick leave
  • retention of employees in the company and their loyalty to the employer
  • reduced costs of recruiting new employees
  • increase the efficiency and efficiency of employees
  • increase the creativity and involvement of employees in the company’s projects
  • better financial performance of the whole organization

It sounds idealistic, but it is an idea worth implementing and every year more and more companies are choosing to provide solutions that will improve the well-being of the employee in the workplace. Medical care packages and shopping vouchers before christmas are no longer enough. An integration trip once a year will not build a good atmosphere at work every day. There is also a multisport card or office massages if you need to stay in the office after hours. And healthy snacks will not help to cope with stress in crisis situations. Of course, these benefits are important, but wellbeing programs can only work effectively if the entire organization (and not just hr) is involved.
