What are the rules for lifting heavy objects?

In professions that require lifting and carrying heavy objects, the spine is exposed to damage and injuries. Therefore, it is very important to train employees with the correct technique for performing these activities.

Before you start the lifting process, check the weight of the item. You can do this by pushing the object with your hands or leg. If it turns out to be too heavy, ask someone for help or use additional support equipment. Do not lift the item if it cannot be moved! You can overload and damage the spine.

Rules for lifting heavy objects:

  • Stand close to the object in a gap or with one foot slightly diagonally in front of the other, so that the balance is provided both in the lateral direction, forward and backward.
  • Fork straight ahead (as close as possible) to the lifted object, try to position your body so as to avoid torsional movements of the trunk – if you want to rotate with the weight, first you need to lift it. Rotate with your feet, not your torso.
  • Bend your knees, but no more than to a right angle. Undo the beard. Tension your neck and tilt your torso forward, but don’t bend it!
  • Tension the muscles of the abdomen and back so that the sacro sacro part remains straightened.
  • Lift the object while straightening your knees, hips and spine – the back must be straightened!
  • Keep the item as close as possible to your body!
  • when leaving an item, follow the same way.
