How to avoid the carpal tunnel syndrome?

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a condition caused by prolonged pressure of the median nerve in the wrist canal. In practice, the most common cause of it is overloading the hand by unnatural lying of the wrist or performing repeated actions. For this reason, carpal tunnel syndrome is a common problem for office workers who use the mouse and computer keyboard for hours. But not only – it also applies to m.in. seam my seam.

Symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome include:

  • numbness, burning or tingling of the fingers most commonly occurring at night
  • wrist pain, sometimes radiating along the shoulder to the shoulder or neck
  • deteriorating hand dexterity, resulting in m.in difficulties in lifting

If you are not sure if this problem affects you, you can perform a test yourself at home (the so-called Phalen reverse test). Fold your hands as if to pray so that they are at right angles to the forearms. If within 1-2 minutes you feel tingling and numbness of the fingers, it means that most likely you have carpal tunnel syndrome. Then you should see a doctor. If, on the other hand, the test result came out negatively and you have no symptoms, then apply preventive measures.

Ways to prevent ailments  :

  • Take care of ergonomic work posture: lay your wrists naturally so that they are not tilted sideways and keep elbows close to the torso
  • Equip your work station with an ergonomic mouse and keyboard and wrist-shaped pads
  • Use breaks to relax and rest your hands.  Exercises for carpal tunnel syndrome stretching the muscles of the forearms and hands:
