Training in occupational health and safety is mandatory. Remember that every teacher starting work in a given institution should undergo initial training, which is divided into general instruction and on-the-job instruction preparing for safe work. Should there be significant changes in the workplace, this instruction should be repeated. Then, up to a year from the moment of starting work, the teacher undergoes the first periodic OHS training. For managerial positions, exceptionally, the first periodic training is provided for up to half a year from the date of employment. Subsequent periodic OHS training shall be repeated at least every 5 years.

It would seem that teachers, due to the specificity of work, should perform training for administrative and office positions. Due to additional risks, however, they belong to the group of other positions whose nature of work is associated with exposure to factors harmful to health, burdensome or dangerous or with responsibility in the field of occupational health and safety. Detailed rules for training employees in the field of OHS are set out in the Regulation of the Minister of Economy and Labour of 27 July 2004 on training in the field of occupational health and safety, Journal of Laws No. 180, item 1860, as amended (Journal of Laws of 2005 No. 116, item 972), (Journal of Laws of 2007 No. 196, item 1420). In addition to the subject of health and safety, the program also includes fire protection and the rules of first aid, so that the employee knows how to act in emergency situations. The programme should be developed in compliance with the guidelines resulting from the Regulation, and should include, among others: selected legal regulations, the subject of women’s labour protection, the principles of workplace organisation (taking into account the principles of ergonomics), definitions of occupational diseases, the scope of employees’ duties and information on the assessment of risks related to the work performed.

The training may take place in the form of a seminar, as well as in the form of guided self-education, based on materials provided by the training organizer.
