Coworking and OHS?

Jobs are changing from year to year. After closed, small offices, the fashion for large spaces and the so-called open space has come, today more and more people decide to rent desks in coworking zones.

Coworking to professionally furnished office spaces where you can rent a desk for a specific period of time. It can be a reservation for a week, it can be a long-term rental, for example, for a whole year.

In the coworking space there are several dozen people who do not work in the same company, often even perform completely different professions, they are united only by the fact that they rent desks next to each other. It is an ideal solution for people who run a sole proprietorship, but do not have the conditions for arranging the office at home. They can rent a place in a coworking center not only to have a place to lay out a laptop and documents, but also to invite contractors to a professionally presented office.

The diversity prevailing in the coworking space is conducive to development, making new acquaintances, exchanging information and views. It is therefore a popular solution among freelancers and people working in creative industries. Renting a single desk is not the only option, it happens that companies reserve entire spaces.

The idea of coworking came to us from the west. The first places where people could meet to work together were created in the nineties. Commercial offices flourished after 2005. Already in 2016 there were over 100 of them in Poland, currently their list is growing at a very fast pace. In all major cities, the offer of coworking offices is wide. The popularity of such solutions is evidenced by the fact that in some facilities you have to sign up for a waiting list, because all desks are occupied.

Information about the need to comply with health and safety rules is included in the regulations of a given coworking space. Since these are professionally prepared offices, their designers can not forget about the ergonomics of work. Proper arrangement of desks and chairs has an impact not only on comfort, i.e. customer satisfaction, but above all on work safety. The standard equipment of coworking zones includes equipment such as: printers, scanners, shredders. In the offices there are also kitchenettes and rooms for rest. This means that for all commissioned equipment, the owner of the facility should order the preparation of health and safety instructions. It should also take care of fire safety – unobstructed emergency routes and exits as well as appropriate markings. In the coworking space, there can also be first aid kits.

The owner of the facility is responsible for the safe and ergonomic equipment of the coworking space and the order prevailing in it, for the proper use of the equipment and compliance with health and safety rules – customers who, using this type of service, agree to comply with the regulations. This does not exempt from the obligation of OHS training – employees staying in it, although employed in different companies, should have important training, which must be ensured by their employers.
